The signing of Hank Baskett could quell the Vincent Jackson rumors -- for now, at least.
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reported Tuesday night that Baskett, who was cut by the Eagles earlier in the day, will join the Vikings' receiving corps. Baskett has 76
career receptions for 1,080 yards and six touchdowns in his fifth NFL season, mostly with the Eagles.
Since recording 33 catches for 440 yards in 2008, Baskett has five receptions between the Eagles and the Colts. But he has stretch-the-field ability, recording touchdown catches of 89 and 90 yards with the Eagles.
Baskett returns to the place where he got his start. He signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2006, then was shipped to the Eagles, where he started five games as a rookie.
Baskett will join Vikings receivers Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, Greg Lewis and Greg Camarillo in an effort to bolster a passing game that ranks 24th in the league through two games.
The Vikings still have until 3 p.m. Wednesday to swing a trade for Jackson, the embattled Chargers receiver who will miss the season's first four games after violating the league's substance abuse policy. But the signing of Baskett could be the Vikings' way of bowing out of the Jackson sweepstakes.
